Recombinant IgdE is recombinantly expressed in Escherichia coli. It specifically recognizes human IgG1 and cleaves it above the hinge region into Fab and Fc fragments. The cleavage site on human IgG1 is KSCDKT/HTCPPC.
It is active over pH 6–8, with an optimal pH of 6.5–7.5, and does not require cofactors such as reducing agents.
