T4 RNA Ligase 1 is expressed in Escherichia coli and derived from the T4 bacteriophage RNA Ligase 1 gene. It is an ATP-dependent enzyme that catalyzes the formation of phosphodiester bonds between intermolecular or intramolecular 5'-phosphate and 3'-hydroxyl termini of single-stranded RNA, single-stranded DNA, or single nucleotides. This enzyme efficiently catalyzes RNA-RNA ligation, while showing lower efficiency for RNA-DNA or DNA-DNA ligation.
